This romantic mid century painting of the President's House, that appears on the egg shaped ornament, was executed by an unknown artist after a drawing of the White House by the English artist, William Henry Bartlett, who visited North America in 1836.The art, "View from the Tiber", as it was called, depicted the lush foliage on the south grounds of the White House with the Tiber Creek in the foreground. A boat sails on the water. This painting was given to the White House in 1967. Even before that, the scene was a favorite of Jacqueline Kennedy, who painted it as a gift for her husband. Tiber Creek was filled in during the 1880's, and today runs under Constitution Avenue.
The artwork is surrounded by a rustic scene of cattails and crystallized decorum that frame the design. The 4" egg shaped ornament is mouth blown and hand decorated by skilled artisans in one of the finest factories in Poland.
This keepsake is a historical memorabilia that will be treasured as part of our American Heritage for years to come.
